Indoor Soccer (Futsal) Rules

This is the rules for Indoor Soccer (Futsal). Due to our playing court and times (20 minute games versus 40 minute games) they have been modified from normal futsal rules. 

Modified Indoor Soccer (Futsal) Rules

General Requirements

  • 20 minute games, running clock, no halftime, no overtime, injury time or stoppage time. Teams will play 2 games per day.
  • Shin guards are required, which must be covered by socks (grades 1-8), tennis shoes or indoor soccer shoes only. No cleats as this is a basketball court. Players of organized teams may wear a matching jersey, otherwise all players will wear pennies to simplify this activity.
  • CSI will supply a size 3 futsal ball, except Grade 7-8 they will play with size 4.
  • Players and coaches will be on the sidelines of the court. Parents may sit on either end.
  • No scores or records will be kept by CSI as this is a creative fun opportunity for players to implement footwork, passing, etc
  • The referee may ask the offending player, coach, or fan to stop their abusive or dangerous behavior. If player or coach or fan continues the behavior the referee may cancel the game. At any time CSI administrators may require the player or coach or fan to leave the premises.
  • Refunds of player fees will not occur for any player or team after 1pm Sunday, November 19. 


Playing Rules

  • Teams on the field are comprised of four outfield players and one goalkeeper.
  • Substitute on the fly, including goalkeepers, no play stoppage will occur.
  • There is no offsides in futsal.
  • The goalkeeper must wear a different color penny than the field players.
  • Goalies must roll the ball out or throw the ball out, no drop kicks. Referee may whistle the play dead for safety of
    the goalie if the goalie is on the ground. 
  • When the goalie has the ball all players must drop behind the basketball court 3 point line before the goalie will distribute the ball.
  • Goal Kicks will be taken at either bottom block outside the basketball lane (where the player closest to the basket lines up for free throws)
  • Kickoffs are indirect. The ball may be played in any direction and must be played to another player than the player kicking off. 
  • No Throwins, Kickins only. Ball must be on or behind the line. No remember no goals from kickins. Kickin that goes into defensive goal becomes a corner kick of opposing team.
  • Corner Kicks are direct kicks and must be taken from the corner of the touchline and goalline. 
  • If the ball hits a ceiling or basketball goal, the team that did not touch the ball will have a kickin closest to were the ball touched the ceiling on the touchline.
  • Free Kicks are indrect or direct depending on the referee discretion. Ball must be stopped before kick can occur.
  • Penalty kicks are taken at the top of the 3point line. All players but the goalkeeper must be away from the kicker they maybe on each side of the 3 point line. If ball does not cross the goalline then the opposing team will have a goal kick.
  • Grade 7/8 Rule. No player may hold possession of the ball longer than 3 seconds. Each goal attempt must be after 5 passes.
  • When a player plays in a dangerous manner, impedes an opponent (without playing the ball), slides, prevents the goalkeeper from releasing the ball with her hands or commits any offense for which play is stopped to caution or eject a player.
  • When a player kicks or attempts to kick an opponent, slidetackles an opponent or slides with an opponent near (automatic yellow card/caution), jumps at an opponent, charges at an opponent, strikes or attempts to strike an opponent, pushes an opponent, holds an opponent, spits at an opponent or handles the ball deliberately.
  • The referee shall apply FIFA Laws of the Game in the event an action occurs that is outside these modified rules.
